BRAMPTON, Ont. – Softball Canada announced their list of the 32 athletes who will attend the 2022 Women's National Team Selection Camp with UC San Diego's
Kaia Simpson, a rising senior, representing the Tritons in Brampton, Ont., June 8-12.
Â
Right-hander
Kaia Simpson made 28 appearances in the circle for the Tritons this past season going 4-12 with two saves over 63 innings of work and an ERA of 4.78. She recorded 40 strikeouts and walked only 25 batters with teams averaging .295 against her at the plate. In UC San Diego's first postseason appearance as an NCAA Division I institution, Simpson led the Tritons to their first win over a power five university and a Big 10 opponent. It marked the first postseason Division I win for the program with Simpson recording her 100th career strikeout against the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University.
Â
At the selection camp, Simpson will be joined by her younger sister, Nicola Simpson, who currently pitches for the University of Tennessee Volunteers. The pair are products of Seattle, Wash., and are dual citizens of the United States and Canada.
Â
The selection camp will determine the roster for the Women's National Team Celebration Tour which includes stops in Ontario and Saskatchewan with three games in each province. The Tour will conclude with the team competing in the Canada Cup International Fastpitch Championship and the World Games.
