NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – On May 7, in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader on the road, UC San Diego split the day with CSUN. In game one, they lost by a deficit of one in eight innings and shut out the Matadors in game two with a score of 4-0.
The Tritons move to 25-25 overall and 13-11 in the Big West while CSUN moves to 21-30 overall and 11-13 in the Big West.
In game one,
Gabby Williams got the start for the Tritons, allowing three runs on three hits with six strikeouts and four walks.
Kaia Simpson came on in as relief for Williams in the sixth and allowed one unearned run on two hits with three strikeouts and one walk. At the plate, the Tritons were led by third baseman
Keila Bosinger who went 3-for-4 with a run recorded. Second baseman
Isabel Lavrov added support at the plate with one run and two RBI recorded.
Jada Cecil tossed a complete game in game two for the Tritons, shutting out the Matadors over seven innings of work. Cecil allowed two hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks. Third baseman
Keila Bosinger recorded the Tritons' lone hit today, recording three RBI on that hit. The Matadors recorded four errors in the final game of the series.
GAME ONE: CSUN 4, UC SAN DIEGO 3 (8 INN.)
The Tritons threatened with six different runners left on base throughout the first four innings of play. It wasn't until the fifth when UC San Diego was able to bring in three runs.
Morgan Eng led off and was hit by a pitch to become the lead off runner. Eng reached second on a sac bunt from
Deena Pederson. Then
Keila Bosinger laced a single past the third baseman to reach and advance Eng to third. With
Isabel Lavrov at the plate, Bosinger stole second. Lavrov then powered a triple up the middle to plate Eng and Bosinger to take the lead, 2-0. On a suicide squeeze,
Clarissa Reynoso extended the lead bringing Lavrov the final 60 ft home.
The Matadors responded in the fifth with two runs, then tied the game in the sixth, and took the game in the eighth with a walk-off single.
Gabby Williams and
Kaia Simpson allowed four runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts and four walks.
GAME TWO: UC SAN DIEGO 4, CSUN 0
It was a pitcher's duel until the top of the sixth when UC San Diego busted the inning open with four runs.
Mariah Melendez and
Kelley Renner both reached on Matador errors as the one, two batters.
Deena Pederson was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. On a fielder's choice,
Morgan Eng was able to bat in Melendez for the first run of the game. Then
Keila Bosinger laced a bases-clearing single through the middle to bat in the three runners and extend the Tritons' lead to 4-0.
In
Jada Cecil's shut out, she snapped the single-season strikeout record in today's final game, retiring 12 Matadors over seven innings. The program record now stands at 223 strikeouts in a single season.

- Keila Bosinger has recorded a hit in the past four games, slashing .320/.318/.750/.316.
- In the final game of the series, Jada Cecil snapped the UC San Diego single-season strikeout record with 223 strikeouts this season. The record was previously set by Robyn Wampler in 2018.

UC San Diego returns home for their final regular season series on May 13 and 14. The Tritons host the Cal Poly Mustangs for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Friday with game one starting at 3:00 pm.
