LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego baseball fell to Cal State Fullerton in game two of the series, 19-7, on Saturday afternoon at Triton Ballpark.
The Tritons (20-24, 10-10 Big West) were led by
Matt Halbach who finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
Marc Filia also tallied two RBI and a run scored, finishing 3-for-5 on the day.
Luke Glascoe went 2-for-2 with two runs and
Blake FitzGerald finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game got off to a hot start with both teams getting on the board in the first inning. The Titans (18-26, 10-10 Big West) brought eight batters to the plate, taking the lead on a three-run homer. UC San Diego answered in the bottom of the inning, bringing seven to the plate and scoring on a single through the left side by Filia and a sac-fly by FitzGerald to make it, 3-2, in favor of CSF.
The Fullerton lineup remained aggressive, scoring two runs in the second and putting up 10 runs on eight hits and an error in the third to take the commanding 15-2 lead.
The Tritons continued to battle at the plate, finally breaking through in the fifth. With two on, Filia doubled down the left field line for his second RBI of the game.
Anthony Lucchetti added another run with a sac-fly and FitzGerald brought in one more on an RBI double to right to make it 15-5.
The Titans got one run back in the sixth with a leadoff homer, before the Tritons answered again in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double by Halbach.
It was Halbach that brought in another run in the eighth with his second RBI double of the game, but the Titans still took a 16-7 lead into the ninth.
Cal State Fullerton tacked on three runs in the top of the ninth for the 19-7 victory and evened the series 1-1.
