Comeback Falls Short in Finale Against Aggies

UC San Diego dropped the Sunday finale, 8-5, to UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif.—UC San Diego baseball dropped an 8-5 decision to UC Davis on Sunday afternoon at Dobbins Stadium and fell in the series, 1-2.

The Tritons (23-27, 12-12 Big West) were led by Crew Robinson and Michael Fuhrman who both finished 2-for-2. Robinson tallied an RBI and a run, while Fuhrman scored twice for the Tritons. Noah Sudyka knocked his second homer of the series and sixth of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Aggies (6-28, 5-18 Big West) were first to get on the board, scored two runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI triple and a ground-out.

UC San Diego had some early opportunities, with runners in scoring position in the first, third and sixth but the Tritons were unable to bring them in.

UC Davis added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to hold a commanding 4-0 lead.

The Tritons finally broke through in the seventh, beginning with back-to-back singles from Fuhrman and Robinson to leadoff the inning. Luke Saunders brought in Fuhrman with a sac-fly and Marc Filia added another run with an RBI single to score Robinson and cut the deficit in half, 4-2.

However, the Aggies were quick to respond, scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead, 8-2.

As has been the case all season, the Tritons continued to battle in the late innings. UC San Diego rallied again in the eighth, scoring on a sac-fly by Robinson and a two-run homer by Sudyka to make it 8-5. However, the deficit proved too much to overcome and the Tritons dropped their fourth Big West series of the season.
