Tritons Take Home Four Medals at WIRA Championships

LAKE NATOMA, Calif.—UC San Diego women's rowing took home four medals at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships over the weekend on Lake Natoma.
 
"We had an excellent weekend of racing at the WIRA Championships," said head coach Colin Truex. "We raced strong to take home medals in four events. I was really proud of the way the team improved from their performances in Saturday's heats to Sunday's finals. We have some more speed to gain over the next 10 days as we get ready for the CAA Championships."
 
The Tritons finished third in the varsity 8+ with a time of 6:50.55, just behind Sacramento State (6:41.45) and USD (6:43.38). UC San Diego finished ahead of Seattle, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara respectively.
 
In the second varsity 8+, the Tritons took home bronze as well with a time of 7:11.84. USD took the top spot (7:02.31) and Sacramento State finished in second (7:09.77), while Seattle and Saint Mary's rounded out the field. 
 
The varsity 4+ earned silver with a time of 8:09.05, just behind USD's time of 7:52.6. Sacramento State took bronze and Seattle and Loyola Marymount placed fourth and fifth respectively. 
 
Additionally, in the novice 4+ the Tritons finished second with a time of 8:12.16 behind USD's first-place time of 8:04.08. UC San Diego finished ahead of Oregon, Seattle and Seattle Pacific.
 
The Tritons will wrap up the 2022 season at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships on May 15 in Camden, N.J.
