LA JOLLA, Calif. – Thursday's men's tennis match between UC San Diego and BYU could hardly have been closer. The doubles point was decided in a tiebreaker, and the match came down to the sixth and final singles court. The Cougars claimed both of those crucial points to defeat the Tritons, 4-3, at Northview Tennis Courts.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: BYU 4, UC San Diego 3
Records: UC San Diego 4-15 (1-2 Big West); BYU 8-6 (1-1 West Coast)
HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second day in a row, doubles play went down to the wire, and for the second day in a row the Tritons just missed out on the win. After BYU won at No. 1, juniors
Daniel Traxler and

In singles play, the Tritons started to mount a comeback. Redshirt senior
Zach Ermert won at No. 3 to level the match, then after BYU regained the lead with a win at No. 1, junior
Phillip Lan won at No. 2 to level the match again. UC San Diego took the lead with sophomore
Jett Cole's victory at No. 5. At No. 4, freshman
Pelayo Rodriguez put up a tremendous fight but could not climb out of an early hole, leaving the match tied, 3-3, with just fellow freshman
Sanjith Devineni battling in a third set at No. 6. BYU took the set and the match.
