Vancouver Whitecaps FC Call UC San Diego Home Once Again

MLS side trains at UC San Diego for the second time

LA JOLLA, Calif. – For the second time in the last three seasons, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer recently wrapped up  training on the UC San Diego campus. Vancouver utilized UC San Diego's RIMAC Fields for training in addition to the Spanos Athletic Performance Center facilities for strength and conditioning. The Whitecaps played two exhibition matches inside Triton Soccer Stadium, facing the Tijuana Xolos of Liga MX and the USL's New Mexico United.

The Whitecaps also used UC San Diego as its winter training site in 2020 prior to the start of the COVID 19 pandemic.

The Whitecaps are not the first pro team to train on the UC San Diego campus. In 2018, AS Roma of Italian Serie A prepped for the International Champions Cup at the Tritons' facility in La Jolla.
