Tritons Drop to Beavers on Final Day at Nutter Classic

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif.  – On the final day of the Mary Nutter Classic, UC San Diego fell to Oregon State, 2-0. UC San Diego moves to 7-8 and Oregon State to 12-3.

The Tritons were led by catcher Clarissa Reynoso who went 2-for-3 at the plate. Kaia Simpson got the start for UC San Diego and allowed two runs on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Oregon State got on the board early scoring a run in the bottom of the third and tallied their second in the sixth with a homerun.

The Tritons battled throughout the game to record four hits on the day. Sophia Real drove a two-out single down the left field line in the top of the third. She advanced to second on a wild pitch by the Beavers but was left stranded. Clarissa Reynoso's bunt allowed her to reach in the top of the fifth. Morgan Eng came in as her pinch runner but was tagged out on a fielder's choice.

UC San Diego threatened again in the top of the seventh, when Deena Pederson drilled a single past the second baseman. Another wild pitch from the Beavers allowed her to advance into scoring position. On a 2-2 count, Reynoso laced a single through the left side to advance Pederson to third. However, Pederson was left stranded 60 feet from home when OSU made a double play to finalize the game.
