LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego women's basketball will return home to RIMAC Arena for the first time since Feb. 5 to play host to Long Beach State on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT. The contest will be recognized as the Black Lives Matter game—celebrating the achievements of the Black community, while continuing the important message for social equality.
The Tritons will return to the road to face Cal State Fullerton on Saturday at 6 p.m. PT. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live statistics will be available via UCSDTritons.com.

LAST TIME OUT
The Tritons went 1-1 last week on the road, dropping a 67-50 decision at UC Irvine on Tuesday night before winning in dramatic fashion, 62-60, at Hawai'i on Thursday.
On Tuesday, the Tritons were led by
Sydney Brown who recorded her second 20-point game of the season, finishing with 21 points, eight rebounds and two steals.
Brianna Claros added nine points for UC San Diego and
Aishah Brown tallied a team-high nine rebounds and two blocked shots. After falling behind early 25-9 in the opening quarter, the Tritons had to play catch-up for most of the contest trailing by double-digits for the remainder of the game.
It was a different story on Thursday, as UC San Diego jumped out to the early 20-8 lead against the Rainbow Wahine.
Julia Macabuhay tallied a season-best 20 points, including the game-winning shot, while
Sydney Brown finished with her sixth double-double of the season (11 points, 10 rebounds). Hawai'i outscored the Tritons 28-16 in the final quarter of play but UC San Diego held off the comeback, with Macabuhay sinking the game-winner with 1.6 left on the clock. With the win, the Tritons swept UH in the season series, 2-0.

Beginning Feb. 7, capacity at RIMAC Arena will be restricted to 50 percent. VANDERVEER RECORDS 200 WINS WITH TRITONS
Head coach
Heidi VanDerveer recorded her 200th victory with the Tritons on Jan. 13, 2022 with an 82-58 win over Hawai'i in RIMAC Arena. VanDerveer currently holds a 204-77 as head coach of the Tritons and a career record of 312-158. During her tenure, she's led UC San Diego to five consecutive CCAA titles from 2016 to 2019, earned four CCAA Coach of the Year honors and twice was named the WBCA West Region Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019.

The Tritons return 11 letterwinners, including three starters from the 2020-21 season—their first in Division I—where they finished eighth in the Big West final standings. The senior class is represented by

TRITONS PICKED 7/9 IN PRESEASON POLLS
UC San Diego was picked to finish seventh in the Big West preseason coaches poll with 38 points and picked to finish ninth in the media poll with 46 points. Senior
Sydney Brown appeared on two or more ballots for both the coaches and media preseason All-Big West teams.
UC Davis was picked to finish first in both the coaches (9 votes) and media (6 votes). The coaches selected UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Long Beach State and Hawai'I to round out the top five. The media had Long Beach State, UC Irvine, Hawai'I and CSU Bakersfield taking up its remaining four top spots.
TRITONS SIGN FOUR TO NLIS
UC San Diego signed four incoming freshmen who will join the Tritons for the 2022-23 season. The Tritons will welcome Gracie Gallegos (G; Denver, Colo.), Gabby Louther (G; Pueblo West, Colo.), Junae' Mahan (G; Stockton, Calif.) and Grace Talbot (G; Littleton, Colo.) as members of the 2021 signing class.
WINNING IN THE CLASSROOM
Five Tritons were selected to the Big West All-Academic Team for the 2020-21 season. Returners
Madison Baxter,
Sydney Brown and
Emerson Herrmann were among a league-best 118 Tritons recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the field of play.
Baxter also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Division I First Team honors in 20-21, her first all-district recognition.

COVERING THE TRITONS
Media members wishing to cover a UC San Diego game in-person at RIMAC Arena must notify a member of the Athletics Communication staff no later than 24 hours prior to the game. All media members will need to complete a UC San Diego symptom screening form on the day of game prior to arriving on campus.
Following the conclusion of each home game, a video highlight melt and video postgame interviews will be made available for media members to download.
ON THE MOVE
After 20 seasons playing as an NCAA Division II team, the entire athletics program is in its second year of a four-year transition to NCAA Division I, culminating in full DI status as a member of the
Big West Conference for the 2024-25 academic year. At that time, all sports will be eligible for conference and NCAA postseason play.
WHY THE TRITONS
The Triton is described as the offspring of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a demigod of the sea with a lower part of the body like that of a fish. It is known as a mighty and fierce sea warrior. Given UC San Diego's close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and its connections with the world-famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Triton became our mascot in 1964.
