Notables: The Tritons shot 35.1% from the field and went 16-of-19 (84.2%) from the free throw line; UCSD held the advantage in the paint 24-20 but were outrebounded 44-42. Emily Cangelosi recorded her first career double-double.
 
STACKING UP AGAINST THE BIG WEST
Sydney Brown ranks fourth in The Big West in scoring with 14.1 points per game, fifth in rebounding with 6.8 boards per game, eighth in free throw percentage (.745) and seventh in minutes with 31.0 per game. 
 
Two Tritons rank among the top 25 players in the conference in assists, including Grace Talbot (19th, 1.9 per game) and Julia Macabuhay (22nd, 1.8 per game).
 
Emily Cangelosi ranks 12th in the conference in three-point field goals per game (1.4), while Parker Montgomery and Izzy Forsyth are tied for 16th with 1.2 per game. Cangelosi also ranks 12th in rebounding (5.2). Bridget Mullings ranks 14th in blocked shots with 0.6 per game, and Forsyth and Brown average 0.5 per game to rank 16th.
 
TRITON MILESTONES
Julia Macabuhay is approaching several career milestones in the record books of UC San Diego. The redshirt senior currently has 255 career assists (86 games) which ranks her fifth all-time for the Tritons, just behind Emily Osga (123 games, 2009-13) with 290 career assists. Macabuhay is also approaching the 1,000 career points mark, scoring 992 points in her UC San Diego career.
 
Sydney Brown has tallied 568 career rebounds (81 games) and is 19 away from breaking into the top-10 all-time rebounders for the Tritons. Brown also has 958 career points at UC San Diego.
 
FORSYTH NAMED UCU ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (DEC. 26)
Sophomore Izzy Forsyth recorded a career-best 23 points in UC San Diego's 61-56 victory over Seattle U on Dec. 21. Forsyth hit 8-of-13 from the field and went 6-for-6 at the charity stripe in 34 minutes for the Tritons. She also collected a career-high eight rebounds, including three offensive boards, and tallied two blocks, two steals and an assist in UC San Diego's final non-conference contest of the season.
 
MONTGOMERY NAMED UCU ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (DEC. 19)
Junior guard Parker Montgomery matched her career high with 19 points—including a season-best three three-pointers—against California on Dec. 16 in Berkeley. Montgomery averaged 13.0 points in two games over the weekend for the Tritons, shooting 41.7 percent from the field and adding three steals, three assists and two rebounds.
 
CANGELOSI NAMED BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK (NOV. 21)
Redshirt senior guard Emily Cangelosi recorded a career-high 25 points to lead UC San Diego to an 85-76 victory over Portland (Nov. 20) and earn Big West Player of the Week. It was the first Big West weekly honor for Cangelosi, who became just the second Triton to earn the recognition since UC San Diego joined the conference in 2020-21. 
 
Cangelosi shot 47 percent from the field and 58 percent from the perimeter with a career-best seven three-pointers. She also added three rebounds, two assists and one steal in the contest. For her performance, Cangelosi was also named UCU Athlete of the Week (Nov. 21).
 
PINTO NAMED UCU ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (NOV. 14)
Grad transfer Denali Pinto put up strong numbers in UC San Diego's season opener at California Baptist. Despite playing limited minutes in the second half, Pinto led the Tritons with 17 points, hitting 4-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-5 from three-point range and finishing 6-for-6 at the free throw line. The Boulder, Colo. native also finished with five rebounds, three assists and one steal for the Tritons.
 
BROWN, MACABUHAY PICKED FOR PRESEASON TEAM
Sydney Brown and Julia Macabuhay were named to the All-Big West Preseason Team and UC San Diego was the only team with multiple scholar-athletes on the six-person preseason list.
 
Brown was named to the All-Big West Second Team a season ago, averaging 12.0 points and 7.9 rebounds—both team-highs—and finishing with a team-best seven double-doubles.
 
Macabuhay also received all-conference recognition for the 21-22 season, earning All-Big West Honorable Mention. The redshirt-senior guard finished second on the team with 8.1 points per game and finished second on the team with 56 total assists.
 
EXPERIENCED ROSTER
UC San Diego returns nine Tritons who saw playing time during the 2021-22 season, including four of the five starters. The senior class returns Madison Baxter, Sydney Brown, Emily Cangelosi and Julia Macabuhay for a fifth season. Parker Montgomery is the lone junior, while Izzy Forsyth, Bridget Mullings, Katie Springs and Courtni Thompson return for their sophomore season.
 
FRESH FACES
The Tritons add five talented newcomers to the 2022-23 roster, including four freshmen and one graduate transfer. The freshmen additions include Gracie Gallegos (Denver, Colo.), Gabby Louther (Pueblo West, Colo.), Junae Mahan (Stockton, Calif.) and Grace Talbot (Littleton, Colo.). Graduate transfer Denali Pinto joins UC San Diego after spending four seasons at Colorado School of Mines.
 
TRITONS PICKED FOURTH IN PRESEASON POLL
As UC San Diego heads into its third year in the Big West, the Tritons were picked fourth with 72 points in the coaches' poll—their highest preseason nod. Hawai'i was picked to finish first with 99 points and nine first-place votes, followed by UC Santa Barbara with 84 points and the remaining two first-place votes. Long Beach State (73 points) rounded out the top three.
 
The remaining schools were ranked in the following order: UC Davis (71 points), UC Irvine (62), UC Riverside (40), CSUN (36), Cal State Fullerton (33), Cal Poly (18), CSU Bakersfield (17).
 
UC SAN DIEGO SIGNS THREE TO NLIS 
The Tritons announced three newcomers who will join UC San Diego for the 2023-24 season. The Tritons will add two international athletes, including Eri Blithikioti a 5'11" guard from Athens, Greece and Australian Erin Condron, a 6'4" power forward/center from Woodend, Victoria. Additionally, UC San Diego will welcome local product Sumayah Sugapong (San Diego, Calif.), a 5'7" guard who prepped at La Jolla Country Day School.
 
TRITONS SHINE IN THE CLASSROOM AND THE COMMUNITY
Madison Baxter, Sydney Brown and Emily Cangelosi were all named to the Big West All-Academic Team for the 2021-22 season. 
 
Additionally, Brown was a recipient of the 2021-22 Big West Service and Leadership Award. She was one of eight scholar-athletes to receive the honor for the 21-22 academic year and the first Triton to be recognized. The award criteria encompass service, leadership and academics. 

WELCOME TO LIONTREE ARENA
Since it was established nearly three decades ago, the University of California San Diego's RIMAC (Recreation, Intramural and Athletic Complex) Arena has been home to countless athletic competitions, graduations, concerts and other events that are imprinted on the memories of thousands of UC San Diego alumni, students, friends and visitors.
 
In June of 2022, UC San Diego announced that RIMAC Arena has been named LionTree Arena in recognition of a $5 million gift for scholar-athletes from LionTree, an independent investment and merchant bank with expertise in technology, media and the digital economy. LionTree was founded by UC San Diego alumnus Aryeh B. Bourkoff, who also serves as the firm's CEO. LionTree's gift is the largest ever received by UC San Diego Athletics, establishing the LionTree Endowed Scholarship Fund to support scholar-athletes.

Media members wishing to cover a UC San Diego game in-person at LionTree Arena must notify a member of the Athletics Communication staff no later than 24 hours prior to the game. 

Following the conclusion of each home game, a video highlight melt and video postgame interviews will be made available for media members to download.
 
ON THE MOVE
After 20 seasons playing as an NCAA Division II team, the entire athletics program has begun a four-year transition to NCAA Division I, culminating in full DI status as a member of the Big West Conference for the 2024-25 academic year. At that time, all sports will be eligible for conference and NCAA postseason play.
 
WHY THE TRITONS?
The Triton is described as the offspring of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a demigod of the sea with a lower part of the body like that of a fish. It is known as a mighty and fierce sea warrior. Given UC San Diego's close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and its connections with the world-famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Triton became our mascot in 1964.
