LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego fencers
Brandon Kim and
Mia Wu competed this past weekend with Team USA at the International Fencing Federation Junior U20 World Cups.
Head coach
Juan Ignacio Calderon commented, "it is extremely hard to qualify to fence for Team USA at these events, let alone do such a great job competing against the top junior fencers from all over the world."
Â
Kim traveled to Bangkok, Thailand to compete with Team USA's men's foil squad. Facing a field of 119 fencers, Kim battled to finish 27th overall. Wu traveled to Burgos, Spain joining Team USA's women's epee. She finished 16th out of a pool of 160 fencers.
Â
"I am super proud of them and committed to make sure our program also supports their individual goals as top level athletes," Calderon added.
