LA JOLLA, Calif.–UC San Diego women's basketball fell to San Diego State, 72-60, on Thursday evening in the first-ever crosstown meeting in LionTree Arena. With the loss, the Tritons (2-5) fall to 1-3 in the all-time series with the Aztecs (7-1).

Izzy Forsyth scored a career-best 15 points and tied
Sydney Brown for the Tritons' leading scorer. Brown also led the team with nine rebounds, along with
Emily Cangelosi. Brown led the team with three assists and three Tritons collected two steals apiece.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons scored back-to-back baskets to open the game and jump out to a 5-0 lead. UC San Diego held the slight edge midway through the period 12-11 before going on a 10-2 scoring run to extend their lead to nine heading into the first quarter break, 24-15. Forsyth scoring 10 points in the quarter to lead the Tritons offensively.

UC San Diego continued to have the hot hand and extended its lead to 11 midway through the second quarter, 32-21, after a three-pointer from
Madison Baxter. The Aztecs put together a 9-2 scoring run to cut the lead to four but the Tritons took a 38-32 lead into the halftime break.

The Tritons gave up back-to-back baskets to open the second half before going on a four-point run of their own to make it, 42-36, with 7:23 to play in the third period. The teams continued to battle down the stretch and UC San Diego took a 50-46 lead into the final quarter break.

SDSU put together a 10-0 run early in the final quarter to take the lead, 58-53. The Tritons responded with a 6-2 run of their own to the cut the deficit to one, 59-60, with 4:04 to play. San Diego State then outscored UC San Diego 12-1 to close out the contest and secure the victory, 72-60.
TRITON TIDBITS
- Izzy Forsyth scored a career high 15 points.
- The Tritons shot 35.8% from the field, compared to 50% for the Aztecs. Points off of turnovers were fairly even at 22-21 in favor of SDSU.
- San Diego State held the advantage in points in the paint (34-16), fast break points (15-6) and forced turnovers (22-17).
- With the loss, the Tritons fall to 1-3 in the all-time series with San Diego State and 0-2 in the Division I era.
- UC San Diego starters were Madison Baxter, Sydney Brown, Emily Cangelosi, Bridget Mullings and Julia Macabuhay.Â
