LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of California San Diego athletic department has appointed Stephanie Duke to the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration, as announced by Tritons' Director of Athletics Earl W. Edwards.
As a member of the department's leadership team, Duke will serve in a variety of key roles for Triton athletics as it continues to make progress toward full NCAA Division I membership. She will work closely with coaches and scholar-athletes as administrator for several sport programs and will direct capital projects, oversee event management and facility planning and will work closely with institutional partners to ensure broad collaboration throughout the campus community.
In addition, Duke will be responsible for developing, overseeing, and implementing a comprehensive equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) plan that aligns with the university's strategic objectives and goals.
"We are really pleased that Stephanie will be joining the Triton athletics program in such an important leadership position," said Edwards. "She has tremendous experience, is well respected and is more than capable of meeting the needs of our program during such a transformative time in our athletics history."
"I want to thank Earl Edwards and Sara Allard for allowing me this great opportunity to work alongside a tremendous team at UC San Diego," Duke said. "I look forward to working hard for our scholar-athletes, coaches and staff to build on the tradition of excellence already in place."
Duke, who earned both bachelor's degree and master's degrees from Cal State East Bay, has spent the last 10 years at Cal Poly Pomona and gained significant familiarity with the UC San Diego athletics program during the Tritons' time as a member of NCAA Division II and the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
A former women's basketball student-athlete at El Camino College and Cal State Hayward (now Cal State East Bay), Duke began her career as an assistant and co-head coach for the women's basketball program at her alma mater. She worked with the WNBA Sacramento Monarchs, who were coached by current Triton women's basketball head coach Heidi VanDerveer, from 1997-2001.
Following a stint as head women's basketball coach, senior woman administrator and sports information director at Notre Dame de Namur, Duke spent six years as Associate Athletic Director at Cal State Monterey Bay and served as the Otters' Interim Director of Athletics in 2008.
Duke joined the Cal Poly Pomona athletics staff in August 2013. During her tenure with the Broncos, she served as Senior Associate Athletic Director, Senior Woman Administrator and Deputy Title IX Coordinator. She also served as the sport supervisor for men's soccer, women's volleyball and the men's and women's cross country and track and field programs. In addition, she oversaw the sport performance, communications, marketing, compliance and student services units.
Duke's first day at UC San Diego will be Nov. 7.
