Tritons Fall in Season Finale

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego fell to UC Irvine in the season finale in a 1-0 result on Senior Night at Triton Soccer Stadium. The Anteaters move on to The Big West conference championship play with the conclusion of the regular season.

UC San Diego concludes its season at 8-8-2 overall and 4-5 in Big West play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a ceremony full of smiles and hugs honoring the eight Triton seniors, UC San Diego turned to the task at hand. The board remained empty as the Tritons and Anteaters battled to find the other's defensive seams. UCI was able to fire off four attempts before the fifth found purchase in the 35th minute on a rebound that pinballed among the Triton defenders before being knocked in by the Anteaters.

UC San Diego responded with their own pressure, connecting several passes through the Anteaters' defense. Andrew Valverde sends the through ball to Alessandro Allen who crosses it looking for Mason Haubrich.

As the second half began with UC San Diego down one, the Tritons came out with a fire looking to equalize quickly. Nick Cirrito looks to capitalize on the set piece with a chip into the goal.

The UCI goal from the first 45 held until the clock ran out.
