UC San Diego Swats Hornets to Earn First Victory of 2022

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC San Diego women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon at Northview Tennis Courts, topping visiting Sacramento State, 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The top doubles tandem of junior Sophie Pearson and sophomore Ella Pachl got the match started with a convincing 6-1 win for UC San Diego. After the Hornets earned a 6-4 win at No. 2, the Tritons captured the doubles point with a 6-4 win from senior captain Anu Bhadada and junior Rachel Wagner at No. 3.
 
Freshman Adriana Tabares earned a win at No. 4 singles when her opponent was forced to retire. Fellow freshman Naomi Nguyen picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 to give the Tritons a 3-0 lead in the match. Wagner clinched the win for UC San Diego with her 6-5, 6-4 win at No. 6.
