Tritons Fall to Wolf Pack in Season Opener

UC San Diego dropped a doubleheader 6-1 and 4-0 to Nevada to open 2022 season

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC San Diego men's tennis team fell to Nevada by scores of 6-1 and 4-0 in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the morning match, Nevada took the doubles point by a score of 2-1 with wins on courts one and three.
 
In singles play, the Wolf Pack secured wins at No. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6. Pelayo Rodriguez earned his first career victory at the No. 4 spot, as well as the only Tritons victory in doubles with partner Jett Cole. 
 
In the afternoon dual, Nevada secured the doubles point by sweeping all three courts.
 
The Wolf Pack earned wins at No. 2, 3 and 5 to clinch the match. Cole took the first set 6-4 and fell in the second set 2-6 at No. 1 before the match concluded. Additionally, Rodriguez trailed one set to none at No. 4 and Sanjith Devineni trailed 0-2 in the third set at No. 6 when the match concluded.

UC San Diego will remain home at Northview Tennis Courts to play host to Sacramento State on Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. PT. It will be the second of four consecutive duals hosted by the Tritons.
