LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC San Diego men's soccer team celebrated its home opener with a massive shutout, taking down Marymount (Calif.) on Friday night at Triton Soccer Stadium. The Tritons scored early and often to win the match 6-0.
For UC San Diego (1-2-0), it marked the first win of the season. The Mariners fell to 0-2-0 in 2021.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons pulled ahead early with a goal by senior outside midfielder
Mason Haubrich at the 11 minute mark. Haubrich's cross connected with the body of a Marymount defender and deflected into the back of the net. UC San Diego scored again in the 24' with a ball from senior defender
Jake Serpa to junior outside midfielder
Alessandro Allen who tapped it into the net to make it 2-0.
Just a minute later, freshman
Carter Jacobus found the bottom right corner with a shot inside the box. The Tritons finished the half leading 3-0.
Senior forward
Nick Cirrito and sophomore forward
John Foltyn started the second half with a vengeance. Cirrito scored off a pass from Foltyn in the 46' and Foltyn got one of his own 10 seconds later. The Tritons upped the score to 5-0.
Senior defender
Jonah Bryan added to the tally with a header goal in the 52'. The Tritons held on to a comfortable lead and won the match 6-0.
