LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego's broadcast production facilities were showcased to broadcasters, college administrators and athletics departments across the country on Thursday as part of the annual College Summit, an event produced by Sports Video Group.
As part of this year's event – held virtually – UC San Diego's facilities were showcased via an in-depth virtual tour followed by a live 15-minute Q&A session. The tour was conducted by
Steven Calista, UC San Diego's Assistant Athletic Director for Video Production. The tour consisted a walk-through and detailed explanation of the equipment and connectivity present in both
Control Room 1 as well as the
Dana Chaiken Production Studio, both of which are housed in RIMAC Arena.
"It was an honor to be able to showcase our state of the art control room with my broadcast production peers across the nation," Calista said.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, UC San Diego Athletics produced nearly 70 live events at teleivision broadcast quality for ESPN3 using its in-house facilities. Next year, with an expected full slate of competition and the addition of men's and women's soccer broadcasts, the number of live events airing on ESPN platforms produced by UC San Diego is expected to soar past 150.
