Wampler Reaches Career Milestone, But Tritons Drop Two to Titans

LA JOLLA, Calif.  The UC San Diego softball team was swept in Friday's doubleheader by Big West favorite Cal State Fullerton at Triton Softball Field. Game scores were 3-12 (6 Inn.) and 4-7, both in favor of the Titans who remain undefeated in conference. With the results, the Tritons fall to 7-14 (4-7), while CSUF improves to 26-11 (11-0).

UC San Diego's offense was led by its 1-2-3 batters in Keila Bosinger, Sophia Real, and Bobbi Aguirre. In the leadoff spot, Bosinger was 3-for-7 (.429, RBI, 2B, HR), Real went 3-for-6 (.500, SAC), and Aguirre was 3-for-5 (.600, 2B, RBI, BB, SAC).

GAME 1: UC San Diego 3, Cal State Fullerton 12 (6 Inn.)
Cal State Fullerton got its bats going early. In the first inning, three runs scored on two hits and aggressive base running from the Titans.

The Tritons had a chance at a big inning in the second but only scraped across one. After Sherriah Harrington singled up the middle, Isabel Lavrov reached on a fielder's choice. An error loaded the bases with one out for Clarissa Reynoso. The designated player then grounded a ball in between the 5-6 gap, forcing Fullerton's short stop to lay out, in turn allowing Harrington to reach home safely.

The Titan bats continued to do damage their next time up.  A two-run home run put Fullerton up by four. Two more hits and a fielding error in the outfield allowed a pair of runs to cross home plate, extending the gap 1-7.

It was all Titans the rest of the way. A five-run inning cushioned the lead for Titan starting pitcher Sophie Frost who was dominant in the circle. Frost limited the Tritons to one run and three hits in five innings pitched.

The UC San Diego pitching staff allowed a combined five extra base hits out of the Titans' 10 total.

GAME 2: UC San Diego 4, Cal State Fullerton 7
Fullerton manufactured a single run in the first inning, before Bosinger found the equalizer. The junior outfielder recorded a solo home run that ricocheted off the left field foul pole.

In the third, UC San Diego strung two doubles together to come within one -- Bosinger and Aguirre did the honors. With Aguirre on third, one out retired and the Titan infield playing back, Harrington hit a sharp ground ball to the short stop, deep enough to score Aguirre and credited the senior with her 14th RBI of the season.

In the fifth, Big West home run leader Hannah Becerra (9) took Triton right-handed pitcher Kaia Simpson deep to left field as the Titans regained the lead for the third time of the day.

UC San Diego was silenced for three straight innings following its two-spot in the third. Fullerton tallied two insurance runs on five hits in the seventh, which was ultimately enough to keep the Tritons out of reach.
