Spectators Not Permitted at Athletics Home Events Through Jan. 17

UC San Diego is moving to remote instruction through Jan. 17 due to rise in COVID cases

LA JOLLA, Calif. – With Tuesday's announcement that UC San Diego, like many institutions nationwide and within the UC system, will be moving instruction to remote-only to begin the winter quarter as a result of the rapid increase in COVID cases due to the omicron variant, it was also revealed that all in-person gatherings on campus will be conducted remotely or rescheduled.
 
Triton athletic competitions will proceed, but spectators will not be allowed to attend home games on the UC San Diego campus until Jan. 18. Affected are the 10 home intercollegiate athletic events scheduled through January 17 in the sports of men's and women's basketball, men's volleyball and swimming.  
 
All home events for men's and women's basketball and men's volleyball will continue to be streamed live on ESPN+, as scheduled.
 
Fans who purchased single game tickets to events during this time period will automatically receive a refund, which will be reflected in their Paciolan account through the Triton Box Office.  Season ticket holders for men's and women's basketball will be refunded the prorated amount for events affected upon the conclusion of the season.

As communicated Tuesday in a campus notice from Chancellor Pradeep Khosla, "the safety of our campus community is our primary concern. These decisions are based upon current data and our understanding of this evolving pandemic. Our scientists and disease modelers will continue to assess the rapidly changing situation during the Winter Break. As new data become available and are evaluated, prediction models will be updated."
