The 25th running of UC San Diego's prestigious BladeRunner fencing tournament is set to take place this Saturday and Sunday at RIMAC Arena on campus.
Part of the Regional Open Circuit (ROC), BladeRunner allows high-level fencers to earn regional points in order to compete in national tournaments.
Close to 800 fencers are slated to take to the strips throughout the two days. All six weapons (men's/women's epee, men's/women's foil, men's/women's saber) will be contested at both the Division I and Junior levels.
"This will be a great opportunity for our team to test the waters of competition before we start our regular NCAA collegiate events next week with the West Invitational at Air Force Academy," said UC San Diego head coach
Juan Ignacio Calderon, now in his fourth season leading the Tritons.
The 25th anniversary of BladeRunner arrives a year later than expected as the 2020 event was canceled due to the pandemic.
"It is a great feeling to be able to host the 25th edition of BladeRunner this year," said Calderon. "This is the premiere fencing tournament on the West Coast and the entire fencing community is looking forward to it after the pause from last year."
Action begins at 8 a.m. PT each day. Fans can follow results from every duel live at
