PORTLAND, Ore.—UC San Diego women's basketball dropped its season opener to Portland, 91-48 on Thursday evening in the Chiles Center.
Sydney Brown recorded a team high 13 points and eight rebounds, while
Parker Montgomery and
Ula Chamberlin added nine and seven points respectively for the Tritons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons (0-1) got off to a slow start, trailing 14-0 before recording their first points on a pair of free throws by
Aishah Brown with 2:34 left in the opening quarter. The Pilots (1-0) landed 9-of-17 from the field, compared to 1-of-17 for UC San Diego, and led 21-4 in the opening period.

UC San Diego found some success early in the second quarter, with back-to-back field goals from Brown and Montgomery to open the period. The Tritons shot 31 percent from the field, collecting 14 points but the first quarter deficit loomed large, and UC San Diego trailed 44-18 at the half.

The Tritons found a rhythm to open the second half behind Chamberlin's seven points and five from Montgomery. UC San Diego shot 38 percent from the field and kept pace with the Pilots, tallying 19 points to UP's 23.

The final quarter saw the Pilots pull away for good, knocking down 10-of-13 from the field for a game-high 77 field goal percentage. Brown tallied six of her 13 points in the quarter, but the Tritons ultimately fell to the Pilots 91-48.
