LA JOLLA, Calif. – Three different Tritons found the back of the net as the UC San Diego men's soccer team earned its first-ever Big West Conference win with a convincing 3-1 victory over Cal State Fullerton Saturday night inside Triton Soccer Stadium.
UC San Diego improves to 4-5 on the season (1-1 Big West) while the Titans are now 2-6-2 (0-2) in 2021.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a physical first half, with each side receiving a booking and the teams combining for 13 fouls.
UC San Diego drew a set piece from just outside the top of the box in the 11th minute, but
Cooper Lachenbruch's shot sailed high, keeping the match scoreless.
The Tritons earned their first corner of the match in the 38th minute. Lachenbruch sent in a beautiful ball, and
Jonah Bryan redirected the ball into the back of the net with a crisp header, giving the Tritons a one-nil lead.
UC San Diego out-shot Cal State Fullerton in the first half, 7-6.
Dominic Peters made two first half saves for the Tritons and Jose Espino did the same for the visitors.
In the second half, the Tritons added to their lead when
John Foltyn ran in and fed
Nick Cirrito whose fourth tally of the season made the score two-nil in the 59th minute. Barely two minutes later, the score became 3-0 as
Mason Haubrich scored on a rocket shot from just inside the 18.
The Titans got on the board in the 79' thanks to a goal from Sebastian Cruz.
Peters finished with six saves for UC San Diego. Cal State Fullerton held a 17-13 advantage in shots, including 10-7 after halftime.

- Bryan's goal was his second of the season, Cirrito his fourth, and Haubrich his second.
- Cirrito becomes the fourth UC San Diego player to register a game-winning goal this season.
- Saturday's match was only the second all-time between the Tritons and Titans. UC San Diego won the previous matchup, one-nil, in 1982.
- Through nine matches, the Tritons have surrendered only two first half goals.
