Tritons Open Season With Win After Superb Singles Play

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of California San Diego men's tennis team opened their season with a win over crosstown rival Point Loma at UC San Diego's Northview Tennis Courts today.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Although Neil Tengbumroong and Cody Duong topped their opponents at second doubles, 6-4, the Sea Lions were able to capture the doubles point.  
The Tritons were able to overcome the deficit though with superb play during singles. Marc Isaia was the first one off the court as he cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over his opponent. Neil Tengbumroong followed as he topped Jan Plueer, 6-2, 6-3 to give the Tritons the lead. At sixth singles, Cody Duong breezed to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over his Sea Lion counterpart.
 
UC San Diego clinched the match at fifth singles, as Sreeganesh Manoharan took down David Strassburger, 6-3, 6-3. The Tritons later picked up their fifth and final point of the evening as Sahm Irvine prevailed, 7-5, 4-6, 10-5.

Next, the Tritons will look to upend No. 7 Azusa Pacific on the road. The teams will square off at 2 p.m. on Friday.
