17 Hits in Game One, Stellar Pitching in Game Two Leads to Two Road Wins Over Toros

CARSON, Calif. – The sixth-ranked Tritons achieved two victories over California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponent Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon.

With the results, UC San Diego moves to 11-4 overall and 4-4 in CCAA play. The Toros move to 9-5 and 2-2 in conference action.

Game Three: UC San Diego 9, Cal State Dominguez Hills 5
All nine Triton starters recorded at least one hit in the contest and six individuals had multiple. It was Bobbi Aguirre's sixth multi-hit game of the season. Guiding the Tritons' offense, Aguirre was 2-for-3, while Sherriah Harrington and Danielle Stedman were both 3-for-4.

The Tritons initially struggled at the plate as the Toros' starting pitcher held UC San Diego both hitless and scoreless until the fourth inning. The bats came alive with the top of the order due up.

Sophia Real and Aguirre pieced together back-to-back singles to get things going. Freshman Graci Dragoo pinch ran for Aguirre and aggressively stole third to successfully execute the double steal. With runners on second and third and one out, a red-hot Harrington stepped into the box. A laser to the right field gap would score two and put UC San Diego on the board.

The Tritons continued the hit parade with only one out retired. Lavrov drove a ball up the middle and a speedy Danielle Stedman singled to the shortstop. Clarissa Reynoso, who had thrown out a stealing Toro in the previous inning, roped a sac fly to right field, allowing Reyes to find home plate. Danica Kazakoff connected on a line drive to right field to secure UC San Diego's sixth-run inning.

The Tritons solidified the triumph when Aguirre blasted a two-RBI double to the left field fence. Keila Bosinger piled on another run with an RBI single to third base to score her.

In the circle, Kaia Simpson relieved Triton starter Robyn Wampler in the fourth. Wampler went 3.2 innings allowing five runs, all unearned, on six hits and struck out two. She later came in to close the door in the seventh to collect her third save of the season.

In 12 batters faced, Simpson surrendered two hits in three innings and zero runs en route her first collegiate victory in the circle.

The Tritons led in hits 17 to eight and tallied a season-high four steals in the game as a team.

Game Four: UC San Diego 2, Cal State Dominguez Hills 0
Game two consisted of a pitcher's duel between both team's starting hurlers.

Alanna Phillips displayed complete command through the first three innings; Phillips had faced just two over the minimum. In the fourth, she worked out of a threatening situation from the Toro lineup. With the bases loaded and two outs, the senior snagged a line drive hit right back up the middle.

Harrington added to her brilliant weekend, going a perfect 2-for-2 with a pair of base knocks to wrap up the series. She was intentionally walked her next two at-bats.

Phillips tossed five innings, giving up just two hits and grabbed two strike outs. Simpson returned in game four, making her third appearance of the weekend. In addition, Wampler replaced the freshman in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded and threw one pitch to smother any hope for the Toros.

The biggest run of the game came in the ninth inning. Mikaila Reyes chopped a single through the left side, followed by a Stedman slap that same way. Reynoso snuck a ball down the third base line to score them both and gave the Tritons the go ahead run, plus one.

Wampler picked up her fifth win of the season. Having thrown 2.1 innings, the Berkeley native struck out three and gave up just three hits in 11 batters faced.

"What a day! We fought back hard, competed and best of all enjoyed playing the game of softball," said Head Coach Patti Gerckens
