Tritons' Opener Cut Short at Halftime Due to CBU COVID Concerns

LA JOLLA, Calif.  Due to COVID testing concerns involving the California Baptist program, Monday's UC San Diego women's basketball game against the Lancers was canceled at halftime. Prior to the cancellation, the Tritons held a 28-25 lead at RIMAC Arena. CBU entered the game with an 8-0 record, where it remains, while the Tritons remain at 0-0 on the season.

As the game did not reach 30 minutes of play, it did not qualify as an official game.

TRITON TIDBITS
  • The Tritons jumped out to a hot start at the beginning of the game, with a 9-2 lead at the 7:32 mark, but CBU overcame their sluggish start to take a 17-12 lead by the end of the first quarter.
  • UC San Diego responded with a strong second quarter, putting up 16 points while holding CBU to only 8.
  • Emerson Herrmann made her first collegiate start in the contest, while Aishah Brown and Parker Montgomery made their first collegiate appearances.
  • Tyla Turner had a game-high 12 points prior to the stoppage.
  • Sydney Brown led the Tritons with five rebounds in the first half. She also contributed seven points.
UP NEXT 
UC San Diego will try to open its season again at 5 p.m. on Jan. 1. The Tritons will ring in the New Year as they host their new Big West rival Cal Poly live on ESPN3.
