LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 2 UC San Diego baseball squad wrapped up preseason with a 7-1 win over San Diego Christian College in an exhibition game at Triton Ballpark. The Tritons came up on top thanks to a pair of home runs, stellar pitching and a big eighth inning.
Everett Lau got the Tritons on the board first with a solo home run down the right field line in the bottom of the third. In the top of the fourth, SD Christian's Josh LaMonte hit an RBI single to tie the game up. The Tritons would get their second homer of the day when
Anthony Lucchetti hit the ball deep right center and out of the park to drive
Blake Baumgartner in and take a 3-1 lead in the fifth.
UC San Diego added four more runs in the eighth as insurance.
Aaron Kim was able to reach home plate off a wild pitch.
Jo Bynum smacked a two run RBI down the right field line and would later make his way around the bases for the seventh run of the night.
Jacob Dobmeier and
Noah Conlon delivered on the mound, both pitching three innings a piece, Dobmeier finished with six strikeouts while Conlon had five. The Tritons pitching staff finished the evening with 14 strikeouts.
The Tritons will host their alumni game this Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Triton Ballpark. The season officially opens February 1 when UC San Diego hosts Concordia Portland.
