No. 14 Tritons Bow Out of NCAA Championship With Second Round Loss

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 14 University of California San Diego women's soccer team fell to Poina Loma, 1-0, at Triton Soccer Stadium in the second round of the NCAA Championship on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Tritons conclude their final season in Division II with a record of 16-2-1.

Point Loma was able to strike in the 29th minute. The Sea Lions capitalized on commotion in the box following a free kick to take a 1-0 lead. It was all Point Loma needed, as the Tritons were unable to come up with the equalizer.

The Tritons applied pressure throughout regulation, outshooting the Sea Lions, 15-9. UC San Diego nearly evened the score with just two minutes to go, but an offsides call negated the opportunity.

One of UC San Diego's other top chances came at the 73rd minute. Erika Braun fed the ball to Kameryn Hoban who took a shot from about eight yards out, but the Sea Lion goalie was there to make the save.

In the net, goalkeeper Angelica Ramos allowed just one goal and recorded six saves. Ramos closes the year with 14 shutouts.

UC San Diego's impressive season comes to an end. The Tritons captured their fifth-straight California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) title after a pair of double overtime victories over Cal Poly Pomona and Sonoma State.
