No. 6/7 Tritons Close West Region Crossover Classic With Win Over Falcons

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 6/7 University of California San Diego women's basketball team defeated Seattle Pacific, 79-67, at Felix Event Center on Saturday evening to conclude the West Region Crossover Classic. With the victory, the Tritons improve to 3-0 to start the season, while the Falcons fall to 0-4.

After a back and forth first quarter, the Tritons held a 20-16 advantage heading into the second. However, the Falcons came back in the following quarter, grabbing a narrow 32-31 lead heading into halftime.

Seattle Pacific held onto its advantage in the first five minutes of the quarter, but then UC San Diego stormed back. Julia Macabuhay contributed seven points and Sydney Brown scored six as they combined for a 13-point run to regain the Tritons' lead. Heading into the final period, the Tritons led the Falcons 53-47.

In the fourth quarter, UC San Diego never surrendered its lead. The Tritons extended their advantage throughout the final 10 minutes, finishing the game with a 12-point margin of victory, which was their largest lead of the night.

Macabuhay, coming off a career-high of 25 points in UC San Diego's previous contest, once again had a strong showing with a game-best 20 points. Isabelle Parker followed closely behind with 17 points, which is the most of her collegiate career. Tyla Turner was the final Triton to put up double-digit points, recording 14 during the victory.

A key contributor in the Tritons' strong third quarter effort, Brown finished the night with nine points. The Rexford, N.Y. native recorded a game-high 10 rebounds as well.

Following the tournament, Macabuhay was named the Tournament MVP, while Turner also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Next, the Tritons will return to La Jolla. UC San Diego opens conference play as it hosts Cal State San Marcos at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
