LAST SEASON

The Tritons are coming off of a record-breaking season. UC San Diego opened 2018-19 with a program-record 30-game winning streak, won the CCAA regular-season title for the fourth-consecutive season and earned the CCAA Tournament crown. The Tritons became the first CCAA team to finish the regular season undefeated and was ranked No. 2 in the WBCA Top 25 Coaches' Poll for seven-straight weeks.

UC San Diego had success against both Western Washington and Seattle Pacific last season. On Nov. 16, 2018, the Tritons claimed a 79-72 win over Western Washington. The next day, UC San Diego defeated Seattle Pacific, 83-72.

PRESEASON POLLS

In the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Preseason Coaches Poll, the Tritons were selected to finish first. UC San Diego garnered 143 points and 11 of 13 first-place votes in the CCAA's top slot. To view the full poll, click here.

At the national level, the Tritons were ranked sixth in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll and seventh in the D2SIDA Women's Basketball Preseason National Poll. In D2SIDA's regional breakdown, UC San Diego ranked second with 54 points and two first-place votes behind only Azusa Pacific. RETURNER HIGHLIGHTS

Coming off of her best season yet, Triton Sydney Sharp is in her senior year. The All-CCAA second team selection started all 31 of the Tritons' contests last season and excelled from behind the arc. Her 89 3-pointers tied a UC San Diego program record. Overall, Sharp averaged 11.7 points per game.

The Tritons also have high expectations for a pair of sophomores. Brianna Claros' 2018-19 performance earned her the conference's Freshman of the Year title. Playing in 31 of the Tritons' contests, Claros racked up a team-best 103 assists and held a 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio which ranked fourth in the CCAA.

Claros' classmate Julia Macabuhay will also look to continue contributing to the Tritons' efforts. Playing in 12 games last year, Macabuhay averaged 11.0 points per game, which was the second-highest among Triton returners (behind Sharp).

HEAD COACH HEIDI VANDERVEER

A former WNBA coach, Olympic team scout and assistant for the legendary Pat Summitt at the University of Tennessee, Heidi VanDerveer enters her eighth season as the UC San Diego head coach in 2019-20. VanDerveer was named the CCAA Coach of the Year for the fourth-consecutive season in 2018-19 as well as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) West Region Coach of the Year for the second-straight year.
