LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of San Diego women's basketball team earned its 13th-consecutive win in a 75-53 defeat of California Collegiate Athletic Association opponent Cal State Monterey Bay, Friday evening at RIMAC Arena.
With 13-straight wins, UC San Diego remains atop the CCAA standings with a 17-3 overall record while moving to 13-1 in conference play.UCSD has not lost a game since Nov. 29.
Four Tritons scored in double-digits tonight, with junior Dalayna Sampton scoring a game-high 15. Joleen Yang, Mikayla Williams and Beth Mounier followed with 14, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Senior Cassie MacLeod and Mounier each tallied nine rebounds.
As a team, UCSD finished with a 45.6 shooting percentage and held the visitors to just 30.5 percent.
Williams and Sampton led the Tritons with eight points each during the first half of play, as UCSD held a 37-29 advantage heading into the locker rooms.
The Tritons outshot CSUMB 38-24 in the second half of play to seal their 13-game win streak.
UCSD opened up the third quarter with a seven-point run to break open the lead, 52-33. The Tritons carried their momentum into the fourth quarter, gaining a 24-point lead with less than a minute left on the clock.
McKenna Hill led the Otters with 11 points, while Courtney Keaton tallied eight rebounds.
The Tritons return to RIMAC Arena Saturday, Feb. 4 for a game against Cal State East Bay (10-4, 13-8) at 5:30 p.m. The Pioneers sit in second-place behind UCSD in the conference standings.
