POMONA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's basketball team dropped its second game in a row by a score of 82-71 to No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona at Kellogg Gym on Friday. UCSD falls to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play, while the Broncos improve to 5-2 and are a perfect 3-0 in the CCAA.

The Tritons kept it close in the beginning by grabbing their only lead of the game, 5-3, after a McKennan Bertsch layup with 17:23 remaining in the first half. UCSD trailed the 25th-ranked Broncos by a single point, 11-12, after a Farrah Shokoor layup with 13:40 left in the period.

Cal Poly Pomona would use a devastating 16-6 run in the next eight minutes, capped off by a Bronco three-pointer by Ariel Marsh, to lead the Tritons 28-17 with 5:39 left in the stanza. The Tritons trailed Cal Poly Pomona by a score of 39-30 at halftime.

UCSD cut the Bronco lead to three, 41-38, ignited by back-to-back Triton three pointers on consecutive possessions from Haley Anderson and Shokoor to start the second half.

Cal Poly Pomona would answer right back and go on another run. The Broncos would outscore UCSD 30-15 to gain their biggest lead, 71-53, with 4:41 left in the game. The Tritons would go on a small run towards the end, but the Bronco lead was insurmountable as Cal Poly Pomona cruised the rest of the way to an 11-point victory.

Defensively, UCSD had no answer for Bronco center Jada Blackwell, who had a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds on 66.7 percent (12-18) shooting from the floor and 50 percent (3-6) from behind the arc.

For the Tritons, Shokoor recorded her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 boards. Miranda Seto added 13 points and Stephanie Yano added six assists for UCSD.

The Tritons will face Cal Poly Pomona again in their next match-up, this time in La Jolla at RIMAC Arena on Sunday, Dec. 21. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
