Tritons Defeat Gators 63-47, will host a rematch with SFSU in the CCAA Tournament Quarterfinals

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. ? The UC San Diego women's basketball team defeated San Francisco State 63-47 on Friday night at Main Gym in San Francisco.  It was the final regular-season conference game for both teams.  UCSD led by 10 points at halftime and led by as many as 17 points in the game.  SFSU made a game of it, coming back within seven points with just over five-minutes left in regulation.  In the next three minutes, UCSD went on a run to regain a 15 point lead and cruised to the win.  Michelle Osier had another big night with 21 points and 15 rebounds.  Meaghan Noud scored 15 points while Erin Noonan added 12 points and five rebounds.

 

With the win, UCSD improves to 22-8, 14-6 California Collegiate Athletic Association, while SFSU drops to 14-13, 11-9 CCAA.

 

While the Tritons shot at a 42 percent clip, they were able to hold the Gators to just 29 percent from the field.  UCSD got to the free-throw line 28 times, being successful on 19 occasions.  SFSU was only 4-for-9 from the line.

 

The Tritons earn the No. 3 seed, finishing alone in third-place in the conference standings with a 14-6 mark.  Chico State is the No. 1 seed at 17-3, followed by No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino and No. 4 Sonoma State. 

 

As the No. 3 seed, UCSD will host the No. 6 seed in the first round, which happens to be San Francisco State.  The game will take place on March 4 in RIMAC Arena with a 7:00 p.m tip-off.

 

In the first half SFSU led for the early portion, before a three-pointer by Noud put UCSD ahead at 16-14 with 11:20 left in the first-half.  Leading 22-21, the Tritons closed the half on an 11-4 run to take a 33-25 lead into the break.

 

In the second-half, the eight point lead quickly turned into a 14 point lead at 39-25 after Alexis Gaskin connected on a jumper.  The Tritons took their largest lead at the 10:52 mark after a free-throw by Osier made the score 47-30.  SFSU came back within 49-42 with 5:20 to play after a jumper by Brio Rode. 

 

The Tritons would go on an 11-1 run over the next three minutes to gain a 58-43 advantage with 2:30 remaining, securing the win.
