ARCATA, Calif. - The 12th-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team suffered its second straight CCAA road loss on Saturday, falling to Humboldt State by a 70-52 margin in the East Gymnasium on the HSU campus in Arcata. With the loss the Tritons fall to 10-4 overall and 2-2 in league play while the Lumberjacks improve to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
UCSD held only one lead in the game as Marla Mason hit a jumper to put the Tritons up by a 4-3 score just over two minutes into the game. From that point on it was all Humboldt State who led by 12 at the break and as many as 21 in the second half before settling on the 18-point margin of victory that provided UC San Diego with its fourth loss in the last six contests.
Senior Meaghan Noud tied a career-high with 25 points, nearly half of the team's total in the loss. She went 8-for-17 from the field while the rest of her teammates combined to make only 12 of their 34 shots en route to a .392 team shooting percentage.
Jennifer Enos led the 'Jacks with her 18 points and teammate Trisha Alba added 16. As a team, HSU shot 48.1% from the floor, including a 9-for-20 (45.0%) from long range.
First year head coach Charity Elliott's squad entered the game on the heels of their worst loss in over two years on Friday night, a 58-41 drubbing placed on the Tritons by Sonoma State. UCSD's only two wins in its last six games were both over Western Washington, including a 79-76 double overtime thriller at home on December 29th.
UC San Diego will return to action next weekend at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday night and at Cal State L.A. on Saturday evening. Both of those contests are slated for 5:30 p.m. starts.
