No. 4 UCSD Wins Conference Opener, Defeats CSUS 77-58 in RIMAC

LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 4th-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team scored 26 of the first 30 points en route to a 77-58 conference opening win against Cal State Stanislaus on Friday night in RIMAC Arena.  UCSD led by as many as 27 points as a trio of Tritons scored in double figures.  Meaghan Noud led the way with 14 points, while Michelle Osier added 13 points, six rebounds and four steals.  Alexis Gaskin scored 12 points and added five rebounds.  With the win, UCSD improves to 6-0, 1-0 CCAA while the Warriors drop to 1-5, 0-2 CCAA.

 

In opening up the game with a 26-4 run, the Tritons held CSUS to four points with 6:47 remaining in the first half.  The Warriors closed the half strong, outscoring UCSD 16-7 and the Tritons led 33-20 at the break.

 

In the second half, CSUS cut the deficit down to 34-24 on a three pointer by Christin Gowan at the 19:08 mark.  UCSD quickly responded going on a run capped by an Osier lay-up to lead 43-26 with 16:13 remaining.  The Triton lead would never get below 15 points the rest of the way as UCSD cruised to the win.

 

There were 49 total fouls in the game, 27 committed by CSUS.  The Tritons shot 5-for-10 from behind the arc and held CSUS to .333 shooting.

 

UCSD is back in action tomorrow night when it hosts No. 8 Chico State.  Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. in RIMAC Arena.
