ARCATA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego women's basketball team won its fourth straight contest, improving to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in CCAA action with a 77-65 victory over host Humboldt State on Thursday evening in East Gym on the HSU campus. The Lumberjacks fell to 7-3 overall and 2-3 in league play with the loss.
Sophomore Michelle Osier posted her first double-double of the season for the Tritons, scoring 16 points and pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with her five assists and four steals. Osier recorded nine double-doubles during her CCAA Freshman of the Year campaign last season.
Reigning CCAA Player of the Week Leora Juster led all scorers on the night with 24 points while fellow senior Hillary Hansen added 16 points and six rebounds. Kacie Kostlan added 11 points four boards, four steals and three assists.
Mia Spasowska scored 16 points in the loss for the Lumberjacks while Katie Wilder chipped in with 15. Biava Arganda rounded out the HSU scorers in double figures, adding 11.
Humboldt State scored the first points of the contest and held a 5-2 advantage after the first 96 seconds of play before back-to-back-to-back jumpers from Hansen, Juster and Osier gave UCSD an 8-5 lead that would not be relinquished.
The Tritons held a 34-27 lead at halftime and pushed the lead up to 17 points with just over two minutes to go in the game before cruising to the 12 point margin of victory. UCSD improves to 3-1 all-time against the Lumberjacks with the victory.
Head coach Janell Jones leads her squad back into action on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. contest at Sonoma State. The Tritons will put their four game win streak on the line against a team that they have beaten in three of their last four attempts.
