MONTEREY, Calif. ? The 25th-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team got 18 points apiece from Leora Juster and Michelle Osier while Meaghan Noud added 17 points during the 81-64 victory over CSU Monterey Bay on Saturday night at the Kelp Bed in Monterey. The victory pushes UCSD's record to 13-3 overall and 9-2 in CCAA play while the Otters fall to 3-13 overall and 2-9 in league action.
Head coach Janell Jones' team pulls into a virtual tie with Chico State and Cal State Bakersfield atop the CCAA standings as the Wildcats fell at Humboldt State to drop to 10-2 in CCAA play while CSU Bakersfield's win at Cal State San Bernardino improved the Roadrunners' conference record to 9-2.
The win for the Tritons sets up a crucial CCAA road trip next weekend as UCSD will play at Cal State Stanislaus on Thursday evening before traveling to Chico State for a 1 p.m. matchup on Saturday afternoon that will be televised nationally on CSTV and Comcast Sports West.
As a team the Tritons shot an even 50.0% from the floor, going 34 of 68 which included a meager 5-for-21 performance from the 3-point line. Osier and Juster each connected on eight shots from the field while Noud made seven that included a team-leading 3-for-6 night from long range.
Britnea Moore and Dana Andrews each scored 14 points in the loss for the Otters while Alma Lopez and Denisha Profit added 12 and 10 points, respectively. CSUMB made 22 of 48 shots from the floor that included a stellar 7-for-13 night from behind the 3-point arc.
The Tritons held a slim 32-30 advantage on the boards and made 18 steals on CSUMB's 26 turnovers. Osier, Alexis Gaskin and Erin Noonan each had three steals in the win for UCSD.
