LOS ANGELES, Calif. ? The UC San Diego women's basketball team won its sixth straight contest, defeating Cal State L.A. by a 68-36 score on Friday night in the Eagles' Nest on the CSULA campus. With the win the Tritons improve to 9-2 on the season and 5-1 in CCAA play while dropping the Golden Eagles to 3-8 overall and 1-5 in league action.
The nation's leading scorer, Leora Juster, led all scorers with 20 points on the night while also pulling down seven rebounds. Fellow senior Hillary Hansen added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Meaghan Noud rounded out the UCSD scorers in double-digits, scoring 11 points while Michelle Osier pulled down 11 boards in the win.
Rosalyn Omoruyi scored 14 points in the loss for CSULA while also pulling down a team-high six rebounds. Amber Fause added nine points while teammate Shayna Stanley scored eight for the Golden Eagles.
UCSD shot a mere 39.1% from the floor on the evening but held CSULA to a meager 23.6% in the game that included a 0-for-19 performance from long range. The Tritons made 7 of 20 shots from behind the 3-point arc.
Head coach Janell Jones' squad held the lead for the entire contest and held a 27-3 advantage in scoring off the bench. The victory for UCSD is its third is as many contests against the Golden Eagles and represents the eighth victory in the 15 all-time series meetings.
The Tritons return to the floor on Saturday night, traveling to Cal State Bakersfield for a matchup of second place teams. The Roadrunners defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday night to also improve to 5-1 in conference play. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. in Rabobank Arena.
