24th-Ranked Tritons Win by 39 over CSUMB

LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 24th-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team posted an easy 92-53 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday evening in RIMAC Arena. The Tritons improve to 18-4 overall and 13-3 in CCAA play while the Otters fall to 3-19 overall and 2-13 in league action.

 

The 18 wins sets a new program record for victories in a single season at the Division II level for UCSD. The previous best came last season when the Tritons posted a 17-11 mark.

 

Leora Juster led UCSD with 18 points and six assists while fellow junior Hillary Hansen added 14 points, a game-high 13 boards and five assists. Junior Briana Hinga poured in 15 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists, four blocked shots and two steal. Freshman Michelle Osier rounded out the Triton players in double figures with her 13 points and 10 rebounds.

 

Krista Herr led the CSUMB offense with 13 points while Jessica Harris added five points and a team-high seven rebounds.

 

The game was marred by 54 fouls and 50 turnovers between the two squads. CSUMB accounted for 31 of the fouls and 29 of the turnovers.

 

UCSD made 31-of-60 shots from the floor on the evening, 29 of which had assists. The Tritons, however, only managed to make 27-of-45 from the free throw line.

 

Head coach Janell Jones and her squad returns to action on Sunday afternoon, hosting Grand Canyon University at 2 p.m. in RIMAC Arena. The Otters travel to San Bernardino for a 5:30 p.m. game on Saturday night with Cal State San Bernardino.
