No. 18 UCSD Cruises Past Cal State Stanislaus, 97-57

LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 18th-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team scored the first nine points of the game and never looked back, cruising to a 97-57 victory over Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday night in RIMAC Arena. The Tritons improve to 2-1 on the year and 1-1 in CCAA play with the win while dropping the Warriors to 0-3 overall with all three losses coming in league action.

 

Five UCSD players scored in double figures on the night, led by Leora Juster who scored 18 points to go along with seven rebounds and seven assists. Fellow senior Hillary Hansen scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds while junior Meaghan Noud chipped in with 14. Michelle Osier scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high nine boards while fellow sophomore Alexis Gaskin rounded out the UCSD players in double digit scoring, adding 10 on the night.

 

Gwendolyn Page scored 20 points to lead the Warriors in the loss, making nine of 14 shots from the floor while also grabbing four rebounds. Shristy Kumar added seven points while Jamie Johnson and Tiare Dvorak chipped in with five points apiece.

 

As a team the Tritons shot nearly 60% from the floor, making 34 of 57 shots on the night, while also making 26 of 31 from the charity stripe. Conversely, Cal State Stanislaus converted on only 20 of 64 shots from the floor for a 31.3% mark on the night. The Warriors shot a meager 13% from long range, making only three of 23 from behind the 3-point arc.

 

UCSD got 34 points off the bench in the game, doubling up the Warriors' bench which produced only 17 points. The Tritons turned the ball over 16 times but forced 27 CSUS turnovers. Juster was responsible for three of UCSD's 11 steals on the night.

 

The Tritons scored 44 points in the paint and poured in 27 of CSUS turnovers. UCSD's largest lead on the night was 42 with 55 seconds remaining in the game.

 

Head coach Janell Jones and her squad returns to action on December 16 at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday night in Carson.
