Tritons Upend CCAA Leading Cal State Dominguez Hills 57-50 on Saturday Night

CARSON, Calif. ? The UC San Diego women's basketball team captured a hard fought 57-50 victory over host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday evening at the Torodome on the CSUDH campus. With the victory the Tritons improve to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in CCAA play while dropping the Toros to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league action.

The 57 points is the lowest offensive output on the season for the Tritons who were averaging a league-leading 84.0 points per game entering the contest. The Toros entered the contest averaging 70.8 points per game, which ranked fifth in the league.

Both teams, however, shot under 34% from the floor on the evening. UCSD made only 2 of 8 shots from long range and made just over 60% of its foul shots, going 23-for-38 from the charity stripe.

Leora Juster led the Tritons in scoring for the fourth consecutive contest in 2006, pouring in 23 points while also grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists. Fellow senior Hillary Hansen added 10 points and five boards while sophomore Michelle Osier scored nine points and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.

The Toros, who defeated No. 8 Chico State on the first week of league play, were led by Alana Bailey who scored 13 points and pulled down a team-high five rebounds. Brigayle Iglehart added eight points in the loss for CSUDH.

UCSD will return to action at the Great Western Shootout next week in Las Vegas, playing No. 24 Seattle Pacific on Tuesday afternoon before taking on No. 12 Western Washington on Wednesday.

Following that tournament, head coach Janell Jones and her squad will return home to host the UCSD Classic on January 29-30. The Tritons will play Western New Mexico on Friday night the 29th, before hosting No. 9 West Texas A&M on Saturday night, January 30. Both of the Tritons' games are slated for 7 p.m. inside RIMAC Arena.
