SEASIDE, Calif. ? The UC San Diego women's basketball team remained tied atop the CCAA standings with a convincing 86-69 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday night in The Kelp Bed. The win was UCSD's sixth-straight on the year and third in a row over CSUMB.
With the win the Tritons improve to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in league play while the Otters fall to 2-11 overall and 1-5 in CCAA action. UCSD remains in a tie for first place in the league standings with Cal State Bakersfield, Chico State and Cal State L.A., all of whom won on Saturday evening.
Leora Juster and Michelle Osier led five Triton players who scored in double digits on the night, pouring in 19 points apiece. Meaghan Noud added 15 while Hillary Hansen and Briana Hinga chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Britnea Moore led CSUMB with 14 points while Denisha Profit added 13. Both Moore and Profit scored their points off the bench as Krista Herr was the top scoring starter with her eight points.
UCSD made only 44.6% of its shots on the night but went 26-for-36 from the charity stripe to make up for its lower than usual shooting performance. The Tritons also forced 32 CSUMB turnovers as Osier accounted for five steals on the night.
Head coach Janell Jones and her squad returns home to host Cal State Dominguez Hills an Cal Poly Pomona next Friday and Saturday nights, respectively. Both games are slated for 5:30 p.m. starts in RIMAC Arena.
