Former Triton All-American Ellen Wilson joined the UC San Diego women's soccer staff as an assistant coach for the 2013 season.
During her four seasons as a student-athlete on the La Jolla campus, Wilson started all 91 games that UCSD contested, at center back in head coach Brian McManus' traditional 3-5-2 system. Offensively, she contributed 20 points from nine goals, five of them game-winners, and two assists. With Wilson as the defensive anchor, the Tritons won a record eighth California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) crown in 2012, and were NCAA Division II national runners-up as West Region champions in both 2010 and 2012.
Wilson's impressive haul of honors as a senior tri-captain in 2012 was highlighted by All-America, Academic All-America and CCAA Most Valuable Defensive Player. A three-time All-West Region and four-time CCAA All-Academic honoree, she was the only Triton to play every minute of every game during her final season, and was named one of 14 UCSD Athletes of the Year.
A native of Santa Ana out of Mater Dei High School, Wilson earned her bachelor's degree in communication with a business minor in June of 2013. She served as the girl's varsity assistant coach under Triton assistant Trent Painter at San Diego Jewish Academy (SDJA) during the 2012-13 season.
