First Big West Weekly Honor for Ma

Sabrina Ma averaged 17 points in a 2-0 week for UC San Diego women’s basketball

LA JOLLA, Calif.—After leading UC San Diego women's basketball to a 2-0 week, Sabrina Ma was named Big West Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the conference.

It is the first conference weekly award for Ma—a junior transfer for the Tritons—and the seventh weekly nod for UC San Diego since joining the Big West in 2020-21. Sumayah Sugapong received the honor twice earlier this season.

Ma recorded back-to-back 17-point performances, leading the Tritons offensively in both games for the week. The San Francisco native was 9-of-15 (60 percent) from three-point range and shot 57.9 percent from the floor to lead the Tritons with 34 total points.

On Thursday, Ma scored a team-high 17 points—including four made three-pointers—to help UC San Diego hand Long Beach State its first conference loss, 79-68. She began Saturday's contest against UC Riverside 5-for-5 from beyond the arc and led the team once again with 17 points in a 59-58 victory. The Tritons have now won five consecutive games in LionTree Arena.

Ma also finished the week with seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. She currently ranks first in the Big West and 24th nationally in total steals (49), second in the conference in three-pointers (44) and third in three-point percentage (40 percent).

UC San Diego will return to the road for a pair of Big West contests this week, taking on UC Santa Barbara on Thursday at 7 p.m. and facing CSUN on Saturday at 2 p.m. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live statistics will be available via UCSDTritons.com.
