Former UC San Diego basketball coach Bill Carr has been elevated to the role of Deputy Athletic Director for Basketball where he will oversee all aspects of the Triton men's and women's basketball programs, including day-to-day operations, roster management, and community engagement. The move was announced by UC San Diego Director of Athletics Andy Fee on Thursday.   "At UC San Diego, we've been thinking differently about how to build our basketball programs," Fee explained. UC San Diego women's basketball has released the 2026-27 Big West schedule, as announced by the conference. The reigning Big West Champions will begin defense of their second consecutive Big West title at home, playing host to newcomer California Baptist on Dec. 3. The Big West opening night will be a double-header with the Tritons men's basketball team in LionTree Arena. UC San Diego placed 38 scholar-athletes on The Big West Winter All-Academic Team, as announced Tuesday by the conference office. The 38 honorees are more than any other Big West institution. The Winter All-Academic Team is composed of student-athletes from men's and women's basketball and men's and women's swimming and diving teams.   To be eligible, scholar-athletes must carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00, be at least a sophomore academically with one full year at the institution prior to this season and compete in 50 percent of their team's contests.   Triton senior swimmer Sabrina Bennani was highlighted for her perfect 4.0 GPA.
