UC San Diego placed 38 scholar-athletes on The Big West Winter All-Academic Team, as announced Tuesday by the conference office. The 38 honorees are more than any other Big West institution. The Winter All-Academic Team is composed of student-athletes from men's and women's basketball and men's and women's swimming and diving teams.   To be eligible, scholar-athletes must carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00, be at least a sophomore academically with one full year at the institution prior to this season and compete in 50 percent of their team's contests.   Triton senior swimmer Sabrina Bennani was highlighted for her perfect 4.0 GPA. No. 3 TCU had a triple-double from point guard Olivia Miles and the host Horned Frogs topped 14-seed UC San Diego, 86-40, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday morning at Schollmaier Arena. The Horned Frogs (30-5) move on to the second round, where they will play Sunday against the winner of Washington vs. South Dakota State.   Erin Condron led the Tritons with 12 points, the junior's 29th game of the season scoring in double figures. Condron and Sabrina Ma each had a team-high six rebounds. UC San Diego saw its six-game win streak snapped. UC San Diego overcame a sluggish start and used a strong second half to down Hawai'i, 60-48, in The Big West championship Saturday afternoon at Lee's Family Forum. Erin Condron scored 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds (16 and nine in the second half) to propel the Tritons (24-8) to their second consecutive Big West title. Tournament MVP Makayla Rose finished with 17 and eight. Both Condron and Rose played all 40 minutes for UC San Diego.   The win was the Tritons' sixth straight.
