The UC San Diego men's basketball 2026-27 Big West conference schedule was announced Wednesday by the conference office. With the expansion of The Big West to 12 teams, each conference member will play the other 11 teams twice over 22 dates. The 22-game round-robin schedule will see each team play a home-and-home series between Dec. 3 and March 6.   The Tritons will begin their final season as a member of The Big West on Dec. 3 when they host newcomer California Baptist at LionTree Arena. UC San Diego men's basketball head coach Clint Allard has announced the addition of six newcomers who will join the Tritons' roster for the 2026-27 season: five transfers and one first-year scholar-athlete. Rahmir Barno (Florida Gulf Coast), Kayde Dotson (Loyola Chicago), Jordan Johnson (Calhoun CC Ala.), Olavi Suutela (Oregon State), and Camp Wagner (Indiana State) will transfer to UC San Diego. Jake Holmes (Christchurch, New Zealand) will join the roster as a freshman. "Our coaching staff did an outstanding job identifying and recruiting this group," said UC San Diego head coach Clint Allard '08. Less than a year after earning his degree in communications from UC San Diego in 2025, Hayden Gray became the first Triton to ever play in the NBA. Gray made his debut for the Utah Jazz last month in Los Angeles against the Lakers. UC San Diego placed 38 scholar-athletes on The Big West Winter All-Academic Team, as announced Tuesday by the conference office. The 38 honorees are more than any other Big West institution. The Winter All-Academic Team is composed of student-athletes from men's and women's basketball and men's and women's swimming and diving teams.   To be eligible, scholar-athletes must carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00, be at least a sophomore academically with one full year at the institution prior to this season and compete in 50 percent of their team's contests.   Triton senior swimmer Sabrina Bennani was highlighted for her perfect 4.0 GPA. Former UC San Diego standout point guard Hayden Gray has signed a multiyear contract with the Utah Jazz. Gray, the 2025 Big West Defensive Player of the Year, becomes the first Triton to reach the NBA.   In his final year as a Triton, Hayden Gray garnered recognition as The Big West's top defensive player and was a finalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year. Gray led the nation in steals in 2024-25 with 110. Gray spent the 2025-26 season with the Maine Celtics in the NBA G League. The San Diego native appeared in 48 games (23 starts) for the Celtics, averaging 9.9 points, 5.8 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 steals in 27.9 minutes per game. Lily Hermosillo didn't set out to be an anomaly. She grew up 25 minutes from UC San Diego's La Jolla campus, in Chula Vista, the daughter of a father who played college baseball and a mother who played softball. By the time she arrived at UC San Diego as a freshman, the sport was as familiar to her as the Southern California sun. Finishing her degree in three years was not part of her plan. "I didn't come into college planning on graduating early," she says. "I finished my sophomore year, and I was like, oh, I think I could maybe finish it this year.
